Woman 'strangled' at in-laws' home

Another woman allegedly subjected to violence at her in-laws' home was reportedly killed in the Habib Lane area of Adiala Road, within the jurisdiction of Sadar Beruni police, in what appeared to be an attempt to portray the incident as suicide.

Police registered a case against her husband and other people.

According to police, Muhammad Ibrahim, a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan who works as a farmer, said his sister Sundas had married Tanveer two years ago and they had a one-year-old son.

His brother-in-law, Tanveer, had been working in Dubai and returned four months ago.

He said his sister and her husband had remained at odds since their marriage because her husband would frequently talk to girls on the phone and spent most of his time outside the home.

For the past three to four days, he said, his brother-in-law had kept his sister under mental stress on suspicion.

He said his sister had spoken to their mother the previous night and complained that her in-laws were causing her severe distress. When he called his sister, the call was answered by her sister-in-law, Fiza, who told him that Sundas had committed suicide.

After receiving the information, he reached the house with his brothers and found his sister wearing fresh mehndi.

He alleged that his sister had been strangled with a noose by her husband Tanveer, Abdul Aziz and other unidentified people.

Police registered a case and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, police sources said a team reached the scene after receiving information and apparently found the room door broken and the body lying on a bed.

A dupatta was around the woman's neck and there were marks of a noose on her neck. A Rescue 1122 team had also reached the scene.

Finding the circumstances suspicious, police collected all forensic evidence before shifting the body to hospital for postmortem. Apparently, no visible injury was found on the body other than the marks around the neck caused by the noose.

The doctor said a final opinion would be given after the report of the Forensic Science Agency was received.

A police spokesperson said the woman's husband and his cousin, who were nominated in the case, had been taken into custody and were being interrogated.

Initial investigation indicated that the woman had died after being hanged, but the investigation was under way.
