An inquiry into the alleged assault of a man and his sister by influential women in the presence of policemen at an apartment building has recommended departmental action against several police officials and registration of cases against those allegedly involved.
The inquiry report, submitted to AIG Karachi Azad Khan, has recommended that FIR registered against the affected siblings, Ali Ahsan and his sister Noor-ul-Ain, at PS Darakhshan, be placed in B-class.
A B-class FIR is a police classification for a criminal case or complaint that is found during investigation to be maliciously false, fake, or frivolous.
The inquiry report held Korangi SSP Fida Hussain Janwari responsible for administrative negligence in handling the matter and recommended departmental action against him.
It also recommended registration of cases against the SSP's mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, as well as all police personnel present at the scene, including four officials from Korangi district.
The inquiry further recommended the suspension of former Darakhshan SHO Rashid Ali, a Darakhshan SIU official and mobile officer Aftab Mangi, along with departmental proceedings against them.
The incident occurred on August 21 at an apartment building in the Chhota Bukhari Commercial area of Defence Phase VI, within the jurisdiction of PS Darakhshan. The siblings were allegedly assaulted by influential women while police personnel were present at the scene.
A video of the incident went viral on social media on August 28, prompting the AIG Karachi to take notice. He appointed DIG South Syed Asad Raza as inquiry officer and directed him to conduct a transparent, impartial and fair investigation.
