Karachi DHA assault video sparks social media outrage

A chilling video capturing the brutal assault of a young man in Karachi's Defence Housing Authority sparked outrage on social media on Friday, showing the victim being beaten with a baseball bat and pleading with his attackers for mercy as several men surrounded and assaulted him.

At one point, the attacker was seen sitting on the victim’s shoulder and striking him on the head with his elbow. The victim, identified as Ali, could be heard pleading with his attackers with folded hands, saying, “Ibrahim bhai, forgive me.”

The video was reportedly shot in DHA Phase 8. The victim reportedly suffered a serious leg injury after being beaten with the baseball bat.

Taking notice of the incident, South Deputy Inspector General Asad Raza appointed the South senior superintendent of police as the inquiry officer and sought a report. He directed police to identify the attackers seen in the video, contact the victim to obtain details, register a case and initiate legal proceedings against those involved.

Sahil Station House Officer Farooq Sanjrani said the incident reportedly took place in Phase 8 several days ago, but the victim had yet to approach the police. He said police were using the video footage to identify and trace the suspects and that those involved would be brought to justice.
