Dolly Parton kept her cancer diagnosis away from the public until after her death, and her niece Jada Star has now revealed the deeply personal reason behind that decision.

"You know, we kind of kept all that stuff real private and so she never wanted to worry anybody," Star said.

The decision meant that Parton's fans were largely unaware of the seriousness of her condition. Her death therefore came as a shock to many people who had continued to see her maintain an optimistic public image and remain involved with work and future plans.
