Blackpink star Lisa takes her biggest solo chapter to the big screen with ‘Always Lalisa’

Lisa is taking fans behind the scenes of one of the most defining periods of her career with Always Lalisa, a new feature documentary arriving in cinemas worldwide this autumn. The film will receive a limited IMAX and cinema release from October 12 before moving exclusively to YouTube Premium later this year, giving audiences a closer look at the BLACKPINK star as she builds her identity away from the group.

Directed by Sue Kim, Always Lalisa centres on a pivotal year in Lisa’s life when she stepped away from BLACKPINK for a year of independence. The documentary follows the pressure surrounding her solo ambitions, acting career and efforts to establish her own brand while she also tries to preserve a personal life away from constant public attention.

The project arrives after a remarkable run for Lalisa Manobal, who became a global star as a member of BLACKPINK after the group debuted in 2016. Lisa launched her solo music career in 2021 with the single "Lalisa", later expanding that chapter with her 2025 debut studio album Alter Ego. Her documentary therefore arrives at a point when her career has expanded well beyond her work with the K pop group.

Lisa has also taken significant steps into acting. She made her acting debut as Mook in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, adding another major international credit to a career already spanning music, fashion and performance. Sony Music Vision has also confirmed that she has upcoming Netflix projects, including the action film Tygo, which she will star in and executive produce, alongside an untitled romantic comedy currently in development.

Her recent achievements have continued to push her profile to new heights. Lisa performed "Goals" with Anitta and Rema during the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first female K pop artist and first Thai artist to perform in that role. She previously performed as a solo act at Coachella in 2025 and became the first K pop artist to serve on the Met Gala host committee in 2026. She also presented at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

The documentary is also arriving alongside another major chapter in Lisa’s music career. Her upcoming EP Press Play is scheduled for release on October 23, with its first single "SaWaDiKa" arriving on September 3. Her four show VIVA LA LISA residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas has also sold out, with performances scheduled for November 13, November 14, November 27 and November 28. Sony Music Vision said the shows sold out in under 10 minutes.

Lisa’s relationship with YouTube also plays an important role in the documentary’s release strategy. Following its cinema run, Always Lalisa will stream exclusively on YouTube Premium later in 2026, although an exact streaming date has not yet been announced. Tickets for the theatrical release will go on sale September 9.

Sony Music Vision president Tom Mackay described the documentary as an intimate look at Lisa’s journey, while Trafalgar Releasing chief executive Marc Allenby said the film would offer fans an unguarded view of her transition from BLACKPINK stardom towards global solo recognition.

Before its worldwide cinema run, Always Lalisa is set to have its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is produced by Sony Music Vision in association with RCA Records and Tremolo Productions, alongside Salt Water Productions and LLOUD CO.
