Kundi urges modern weapons for K-P police

PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has called for equipping the provincial police with modern weapons, advanced technology and additional resources to effectively combat terrorism, saying the force was playing a frontline role in maintaining peace despite extraordinary security challenges.

He was speaking to a 33-member delegation of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) of Sindh Police undergoing training at the National Police Academy during their study visit to Governor House. Led by Course Commander Muhammad Aurangzeb, the delegation participated in an interactive session with the governor, who welcomed the visiting officers and appreciated the increasing participation of women in the police service.

Kundi said policing in K-P was different from other provinces because of the persistent threat of terrorism. He said the K-P police had remained at the forefront of the war against terrorism but required modern weapons, additional bulletproof vehicles and advanced technology to deal with emerging threats, including militant quadcopter attacks. He added that recommendations had already been sent to the provincial government for improving police salaries.

The governor said K-P faced multiple security challenges due to its long border with Afghanistan, while the army and Frontier Corps were playing a vital role in border security. He stressed the need to provide full support to all law-enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism.

Responding to a question, Kundi said terrorism originating from Afghan soil against Pakistan was unacceptable. He said evidence had emerged regarding the involvement of some Afghan nationals in terrorist incidents in K-P, adding that the repatriation of illegal Afghan nationals was continuing.
