Fans looking for clues about Heated Rivalry season 2 do not have to wait for the new episodes to arrive. According to creator Jacob Tierney, much of what viewers want to know can already be found in Rachel Reid's Game Changers book series.

Tierney and producer Brendan Brady recently opened up about the upcoming season, which will continue the story of hockey stars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, played by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie. While fans have been eager for details about what is ahead, Tierney suggested that the source material already provides plenty of answers.

"What’s so funny about the level of secrecy is like there’s a book—you can just look at it," Tierney said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He explained that around 90 per cent of what fans want to know about the upcoming story can be found in the books.

The first season was primarily based on Reid's novel Heated Rivalry, while also incorporating elements from the first book in the series, Game Changer. That material helped shape the storyline involving Scott Hunter, played by François Arnaud, and Kip Grady, played by Robbie G.K.

For season 2, the focus will return to Shane and Ilya while drawing heavily from Reid's sixth book, The Long Game. Tierney previously confirmed that the season will also incorporate a storyline from the fifth book, Role Model.

That means fans who want to get an idea of what is coming next can look specifically at books five and six. Viewers who have not read the series yet may therefore encounter major season 2 storylines by reading the novels ahead of the show's return.

The decision to draw from Role Model also expands the world beyond Shane and Ilya. The book follows hockey player Troy Barrett and social media manager Harris Drover, with Charlie Gillespie and Justice Smith joining the second season as the characters.

Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2027. While Tierney and Brady are keeping some details under wraps, their comments make clear that fans who want to speculate about the new season already have a significant source of information available to them.

For those hoping to avoid spoilers, however, the producers' advice comes with a warning: reading Role Model and The Long Game could reveal a substantial amount of what Heated Rivalry season 2 has in store.
