Sleuths crack murder mystery in 48 hours

Police recover 30-bore pistol and motorcycle allegedly used in crime

HARIPUR:

The blind murder of a Health Department employee was traced within 48 hours and two suspects were arrested, police said on Wednesday.

A 30-bore pistol along with ammunition and a motorcycle allegedly used in the incident were also recovered from the suspects.

Haripur DPO Shafiullah Gandapur, speaking at an emergency press conference at City police station along with SHO Ejaz Ali and City police station Investigation In-charge Inspector Shafiqur Rehman, told media representatives that on Aug 16, 2026, at around 8pm, Zakia Bibi, widow of Muhammad Waqas Qureshi, a resident of Mohalla Malkan Darvesh and an ECG technician at Trauma Centre Haripur, was being taken to the Trauma Centre for duty by her husband, Muhammad Waqas.

The victim, Muhammad Waqas, was employed as a plumber at DHQ Hospital Haripur.

As soon as he left his house on a motorcycle with his wife Zakia to drop her at work, unknown suspect(s) opened fire on him with weapons.

On the complaint of the victim's widow, Zakia Bibi, a case against unknown suspect(s) was registered at City police station under FIR No. 839 dated Aug 16, 2026, under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, DPO Shafiullah Gandapur directed Haripur SP Investigation Shabbir Hussain Shah, City DSP Sajjad Khan, DSP Headquarters/Investigation Muhammad Tanveer and SHO City Ejaz Ali to trace the suspects involved in the incident and recover the murder weapon.
