DIJKOT:

Lawyers boycotted courts and staged a protest outside the sessions court on Tuesday following allegations that police officials from Madina Town police station harassed and threatened the son of a member of the Punjab Bar Council.

The Punjab Bar Council had announced a strike in Faisalabad over the alleged incident involving the son of Punjab Bar Council member Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed Lona.

As part of the protest, dozens of lawyers led by Lona and Bar President Mian Tariq parked their vehicles at the Sessions Court gate, blocking the road and chanting slogans against Madina Town police. They also barred police personnel from entering the Sessions Court premises.

Addressing the protesters, Lona alleged that police were attempting to intimidate members of the legal community.

He warned that lawyers would resist any attempt to pressure or harass them or their families.

He further said police would not be allowed to enter the Sessions Court until the lawyers' demands were met.

The bar president demanded the suspension and registration of cases against Madina Town SHO Adeel Akram Cheema, Sub-Inspector Tayyab and other officials allegedly involved in harassing, threatening and attempting to abduct Lona's son.

The protesting lawyers said their boycott and demonstration would continue until their demands were accepted.
