Netflix’s 'The Altruists' sets release date and unveils first look at FTX drama

Netflix’s 'The Altruists', starring Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle, explores the rise and fall of FTX founders

Netflix has announced the release date for The Altruists, its upcoming limited series inspired by the rise and collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and its founder Sam Bankman-Fried.

According to Variety, the eight-episode drama will premiere on Netflix on November 19, 2026. The streamer has also unveiled first-look photos featuring Julia Garner as Caroline Ellison and Anthony Boyle as Bankman-Fried.

Created by Graham Moore, The Altruists follows Bankman-Fried and Ellison as they rise to prominence in the financial world before becoming central figures in one of the biggest financial scandals in recent years. The series is inspired by articles published by New York Magazine and explores their relationship, ambitions and eventual downfall.

The official synopsis describes the pair as highly intelligent and ambitious young idealists who attempted to transform the global financial system before being accused of stealing $8 billion.

Bankman-Fried became one of the most prominent figures in cryptocurrency and was once ranked among America’s wealthiest individuals. FTX collapsed in November 2022 after evidence of financial wrongdoing emerged, leading to Bankman-Fried’s arrest the following month.

Ellison served as CEO of Alameda Research, the trading firm connected to FTX. She later testified against Bankman-Fried during his criminal trial.

Alongside Garner and Boyle, The Altruists cast includes Alex Lawther, Karan Soni, Naomi Okada, Madison Hu, Matt Rife and Eugene Young. Hudson Williams, Paul Reiser, Robin Weigert, Jennifer Grey and Terry Chen also appear.

Moore serves as writer and showrunner alongside Jacqueline Hoyt, while James Ponsoldt, Kyle Patrick Alvarez and Mairzee Almas are among the directors. Barack and Michelle Obama are executive producers through Higher Ground Productions.
