Perez Hilton's mom files for temporary custody of his 3 children after self-harming livestream

Perez Hilton's mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has filed for temporary custody of his three children days after the blogger was hospitalized following a disturbing livestream from his Miami home.

Lavandeira filed the petition in a Miami family court on August 7, three days after Hilton, 48, livestreamed himself while covered in blood and appeared to self-harm. PEOPLE confirmed the filing through public court records. 

Hilton was hospitalised on August 4 after local authorities responded to reports of a suicide attempt. He was taken into care under Florida's Baker Act, which allows authorities to involuntarily hospitalize someone who is considered a danger to themselves or others. 

His family previously said that Hilton suffered "significant blood loss" and additional injuries during the incident and would require surgery. At the time, they described his condition as "serious but stable" and said his treatment and recovery would be a lengthy process. 

Hilton shares three children with his mother: Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8. The children currently live with Lavandeira in Miami, where they recently moved to be closer to family. According to a previous statement from Hilton's family, the children, along with his niece and sister, were at the home shortly before the livestream began.

The family said the children and other relatives "immediately fled" the property once it became apparent that Hilton was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself. 

Representatives for Hilton have not provided a further update on his condition since an August 5 statement saying they did not have any additional confirmed information to share.

Following the livestream, Hilton's TikTok account was also banned, with a US spokesperson for the platform confirming the action to People.

The custody filing comes as Hilton remains in recovery following the August 4 incident, with his family continuing to describe the situation as a serious and ongoing medical matter.
