RJ Mitte’s mother speaks out after actor’s death at 34
Dyna Mitte says she wants her son remembered for his acting, philanthropy and disability advocacy

RJ Mitte’s mother, Dyna Mitte, has spoken publicly about the devastating loss of her son, sharing details of the morning she discovered him dead at his home in Brownsville, Texas.
The actor, best known for playing Walter White Jr in Breaking Bad, died on October 12 at the age of 34. His representative confirmed that he died by suicide, although the Brownsville Police Department had previously stated that the manner of death remained under investigation.
Speaking to NBC News in an interview published on October 15, Dyna recalled calling her son at around 11am. She said he often slept until noon, so his failure to answer initially did not immediately alarm her. She later picked up lunch and went to his home, where she found him.
Dyna said she believed her son’s death was a spur of the moment decision and that he had not left a note. She also recalled that a close friend had told her Mitte had been deeply hurt by certain issues.
The actor’s mother said she had encouraged him to seek therapy during the previous three months, but he had reassured her that he was managing. Looking back, she expressed regret that she had not pushed harder for him to receive support.
Dyna explained that she had decided to speak publicly in the hope that sharing her experience might help another family facing a similar situation.
Mitte played Walter White Jr across all five seasons of Breaking Bad, which aired from 2008 to 2013. He was born with cerebral palsy and used his public profile to advocate for disability awareness and inclusion.
His family said he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and led The Mitte Foundation as president.
Following his death, co stars including Bryan Cranston and Bob Odenkirk paid tribute to the actor, remembering his warmth and commitment to helping others. His family has asked for privacy while loved ones grieve.
