Netflix reveals star-studded cast for Michelle Monaghan’s 'The Sticks'

Netflix reveals the cast and first-look images for 'The Sticks', a new YA hockey drama starring Michelle Monaghan

Netflix has announced additional cast members and released first-look images for The Sticks, its upcoming young adult hockey drama starring Michelle Monaghan.

The eight-episode series, which recently completed production, follows a Minnesota hockey community after a tragedy changes the lives of its residents. Monaghan stars as Harper Sullivan, a grieving woman who takes over as coach of the hockey team built by her late husband.

The series centres on Harper as she helps a group of young athletes deal with loss, relationships and rivalry while attempting to rebuild the team and give the town a sense of hope.

Scott Bakula, returning to television after his previous work on Quantum Leap and NCIS: New Orleans, has joined the series as a regular cast member. Logan Marshall-Green is also a series regular, playing Coach Sully. Alex MacIsaac joins them as Emma Boone.

The previously announced cast includes Émilie Bierre as Riley Sullivan, Shai Chase as Henry Sullivan, Josh Macqueen as Rhett Nelson, Costa D’Angelo as Owen Boone, Carter Shimp as Austin Ryder and Ethan Holder as Cooper Cunningham.

Netflix has also confirmed several recurring cast members. Bryan Greenberg will play Cliff Barnes, while Chelsea Field portrays Alice Hansen. Patrick Gallagher appears as Principal Montgomery, with Alison Araya as Joan Garcia, Aman Smardon as Kai Becker, Krista Bridges as Frankie Ryder and Ben Cotton as Mr. Marchbanks.

Created by Nick Naveda and developed with showrunner Bridget Bedard, The Sticks is produced by 21 Laps. Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Robert Atwood executive produce alongside Naveda and Bedard. Trey Edward Shults is also an executive producer and directs episodes of the series.

The drama joins a growing group of hockey-focused television projects, including Heated Rivalry and Off Campus. Netflix has not yet announced a release date for The Sticks.
