Dengue claims four more lives in Lahore, death toll now 115 in Punjab

LAHORE: The dengue virus continued to wreak havoc in the province of Punjab as four more people succumbed to the disease in Lahore on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 115 in the province, reported Express 24/7.

The people who lost their lives in the Mayo Hospital and the General Hospital include Irshad, a resident of Bilal Gunj-Gulzar Bibi, another resident of Lahori gate, a police constable and a nurse.

The number of patients suffering from the ailment has crossed 11,000 in the province and about 9,800 of them belong to Lahore alone.

An emergency has been imposed at several hospitals across the province to cater to the dengue patients.

Hospitals should collect data on dengue: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed hospitals to collect data on dengue patients, while chairing a meeting in Lahore on Wednesday to review the steps being taken to eradicate the disease.

During the meeting, the chief minister said that field hospitals have been set up for the treatment of dengue patients in the most affected city of the province.

Sharif also said that lectures should be organized in schools and colleges to raise awareness about the disease, and further ordered that the sanitary campaign in Punjab should be accelerated.

In response, the Lahore commissioner said that 38,000 metric tons of garbage will be removed from the city till October 14.

School timings in Lahore changed again

All schools in Lahore will open at eight-o-clock in the morning, while the closing timings will be decided by the schools themselves, said the Secretary School Education on Wednesday.

According to Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kumbo, all the precautionary measures against dengue have been completed in all schools.

He added that 12 schools were issued notices for violating the government's order regarding preventive measures against dengue.

Meanwhile, he said, the decision to change school timings was taken in the wake of extraordinary traffic on roads.

The change in school timing will be implemented from October 3.
