Tom Holland says he was ready to host SNL, but the show’s summer break delayed his long-awaited debut

Tom Holland has revealed that he was finally prepared to host Saturday Night Live during the promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the opportunity did not materialise because the long-running NBC sketch show was on its summer hiatus.

Speaking during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Holland said he told Sony’s marketing team that he felt ready to take on the hosting role after previously turning down invitations. However, he was informed that Saturday Night Live was not airing new episodes during the summer.

The actor admitted he was relieved by the scheduling conflict, joking, “Thank God,” after learning the show was on break.

Holland has previously spoken openly about his hesitation to host SNL, explaining that his dyslexia makes reading cue cards during a live broadcast particularly stressful. During an earlier appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, the Spider-Man star said reading aloud can cause him to freeze, despite having no difficulty reading in everyday situations.

Seth Meyers attempted to ease those concerns by introducing Holland to the cue card operator who works on both Late Night and Saturday Night Live, assuring the actor that he would be well supported if he eventually accepts the hosting gig.

The comments come as Holland continues promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has generated significant attention ahead of its theatrical release. Fans have long hoped to see the actor host SNL, and his latest remarks suggest the possibility remains open once scheduling aligns.

Although the appearance did not happen this year, Holland’s willingness to face one of his biggest professional fears has renewed speculation that his Saturday Night Live debut could happen in the future.
