Mirpur administration completes preparations for July 27 AJK elections

The Mirpur Division administration on Thursday said it had completed preparations for the July 27 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general elections, putting in place a comprehensive security and administrative plan to ensure peaceful, transparent and orderly polling across Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber districts.

The arrangements were reviewed at a high-level meeting chaired by Mirpur Division Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mirpur Region Kamran Ali. Senior officials from the health, education and electricity departments briefed the meeting on election-day preparations and contingency measures.

The meeting reviewed security at polling stations, transport arrangements, uninterrupted electricity supply, emergency medical services and coordination among all departments involved in the electoral process.

The commissioner directed all departments to activate control rooms and designate focal persons, saying their contact details should be shared immediately to ensure prompt communication and quick decision-making in the event of an emergency.

He instructed the Electricity Department to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and eliminate load-shedding on polling day, while directing the Health Department to keep emergency medical teams and response units on standby. The Education Department was asked to provide full administrative support to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.

Commissioner Khan said peaceful and transparent elections were a collective responsibility of all state institutions, stressing that close coordination between the district administration, police and other departments was essential to avoid any disruption to the polling process.

“The people’s vote is a national trust, and it is the administration’s responsibility to provide every citizen with a secure environment to exercise their democratic right freely,” he said, urging voters to participate peacefully in the July 27 polls and help strengthen democratic traditions through a high turnout.

The DIG said comprehensive security arrangements had been finalised to maintain law and order, adding that the police, district administration and all relevant institutions would work in close coordination to ensure peaceful and uninterrupted polling.
