Balochistan gripped by scorching heatwave

Temperatures in Sibi and Nokkundi climb to 47 degrees, while Quetta recorded 41 degrees

Most districts of Balochistan are currently in the grip of a severe heatwave, with dry and extremely hot conditions disrupting daily life across the province.

According to the Meteorological Department, the western, southern, and central districts are experiencing intense heat, with Nokkundi, Washuk, Dalbandin, Kharan, Nushki, Sibi, and Nasirabad among the worst affected areas. Temperatures in Sibi and Nokkundi have climbed to 47 degrees Celsius, while the provincial capital Quetta recorded 41 degrees Celsius.

The blistering heat has caused significant hardship for residents. In Quetta, the situation has been further aggravated by prolonged and unannounced electricity load-shedding, with many areas facing power outages of eight to ten hours daily.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a monsoon alert for Balochistan until July 24, warning of thundershowers in Zhob, Sherani, Loralai, Duki, Harnai, Sibi, Barkhan, Musakhel, Khuzdar, Nasirabad, Jafarabad, and Jhal Magsi.

The expected rains may trigger flooding in seasonal streams (nullahs), flash floods in hilly areas, and urban flooding in low-lying regions. Water levels in the Nari, Bolan, and Lahri rivers are also likely to rise.
