Communication blackout persists

QUETTA:

Mobile and internet services remained suspended in Quetta and various parts of Balochistan for a second consecutive day due to looming security threats, according to sources within the Home and Tribal Affairs Department.

While basic mobile network signals were partially restored in some areas, the internet services remained completely down, cutting off residents from essential digital communication.

The communication blackout comes alongside an acute crisis in Nushki district, where all commercial banks and financial services unexpectedly halted operations on August 5.

Citing security concerns, the financial lockout is set to last until August 31, 2026, leaving residents completely unprepared.

The sudden closure of financial institutions without prior notice has paralyzed local trade and left everyday citizens in a desperate situation. Government workers and elderly pensioners are unable to draw their monthly incomes to buy basic groceries or medicines, while students are left stranded without access to funds for tuition or living expenses.

Local business owners and residents have expressed deep frustration over the dual shutdowns, urging authorities and banking officials to find balanced solutions that protect public safety without cutting off entire communities from vital financial and communication lifelines.
