James Gunn reveals the reality star who almost appeared in Man of Tomorrow
James Gunn reveals Rick Devens had a Man of Tomorrow cameo planned but Big Brother filming forced him to cancel

James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow almost featured a surprise appearance from Big Brother 28 star Rick Devens, but scheduling conflicts prevented the reality personality from filming his cameo.
The DC Studios co-head revealed that Devens was originally expected to appear in the upcoming Superman sequel, following a social media exchange after the reality star mentioned Gunn during a live episode of Big Brother Season 28.
When a fan asked whether Devens would appear in Man of Tomorrow, Gunn explained that the cameo could not happen because Devens was competing on Big Brother. He later clarified that Devens had been planned to appear in the background of the film but had to cancel due to his reality TV commitments.
Gunn added that Devens’ family still visited the set, revealing that the Survivor alum’s wife and children were able to be involved despite his absence. The filmmaker also joked that Devens could not reveal why he had to cancel but hinted that the reason was exciting.
Devens became known to reality TV audiences through his appearances on Survivor before joining the cast of Big Brother 28 as one of the season’s surprise houseguests. The current season features contestants competing for a $750,000 prize on CBS and Paramount+.
Man of Tomorrow will continue the story established in Gunn’s Superman, which was released in 2025. The upcoming DC Studios film will see David Corenswet return as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as Lex Luthor.
The highly anticipated superhero sequel is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 9, 2027, as part of DC Studios’ expanding cinematic universe.
