Is ‘Jason Bourne’ returning? Matt Damon shares a fresh update
Matt Damon breaks silence on the future of the ‘Jason Bourne’ franchise

Matt Damon has provided a major update on the long-awaited Jason Bourne 6, confirming that discussions about the sequel are underway while addressing speculation that the franchise could move forward without him.
Speaking during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Damon revealed that he has been in talks with director Edward Berger, who is attached to helm the next installment in the spy franchise. While the project is still in development, Damon made it clear that he is eager to reprise his role as the iconic CIA operative.
“I’m talking to a great director named Ed Berger,” Damon said. “We’re just trying to nail the story down because I’d love to do it.”
The actor stressed that finding the right story is the biggest priority, explaining that the Bourne films differ from franchises like James Bond, where each movie largely stands on its own.
“It’s a linear story, so it makes it more challenging to do a sequel where you’re giving people what they want but also enough new stuff,” Damon said.
His comments come after reports suggested Universal Pictures was considering rebooting the franchise with a younger lead, with rumors even linking Zendaya to a potential reimagining. Damon’s latest remarks appear to reaffirm that the current focus remains on developing a sequel featuring his return as Jason Bourne rather than replacing the character.
Damon first portrayed the amnesiac assassin in 2002’s The Bourne Identity and went on to star in The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, and 2016’s Jason Bourne. He did not appear in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, which introduced Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross while director Paul Greengrass was also absent from the franchise.
For now, Jason Bourne 6 has yet to receive an official release date, with Damon indicating that the creative team is focused on perfecting the story before moving forward.
