Zendaya plans timeout to unwind
After a whirlwind year of five major releases, Hollywood's busiest star says she's ready to disappear from the spot

Hollywood star Zendaya is preparing to step away from the spotlight after what she describes as the busiest year of her career, saying months of nonstop filming, global premieres and promotional tours have convinced her that it is finally time to slow down.
The Emmy-winning actor, who headlines five major projects in 2026, says she plans to "disappear" for a while once her commitments conclude, choosing rest and privacy after an extraordinary run that has cemented her status as one of the industry's biggest stars.
The 29-year-old actor's remarkable year has made her one of Hollywood's most visible performers, with blockbuster films, prestige dramas and high-profile fashion appearances ensuring she has rarely been out of the public eye.
While audiences have embraced the packed slate of releases, the actor told Entertainment Tonight during the New York premiere of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey', that the relentless pace has left her longing for a period away from cameras and constant travel. She made it clear that she has no ambitious plans once her promotional commitments are complete. Asked what comes next, she laughed before replying, "Oh girl, nothing. Just mind my business, you know? And stay to myself."
Reflecting on months spent travelling from one country to another, she said the whirlwind schedule often means being in a different place every day, adding that sometimes "you need to just disappear for a little bit."
Her comments reinforce similar remarks made earlier this year during an interview with Fandango's 'Big Ticket', where she acknowledged that audiences would be seeing an exceptional amount of her throughout 2026.
Smiling at the prospect of appearing on cinema and television screens almost continuously, she joked, "I just hope people don't get sick of me this year," before thanking fans for supporting both her films and her career.
Zendaya began 2026 with A24's 'The Drama', in which she stars alongside Robert Pattinson, followed shortly by the return of HBO's acclaimed series 'Euphoria', where she reprises her Emmy-winning role as Rue Bennett. Those releases alone would have made for a demanding schedule.
The summer has further elevated her global profile through two of the year's biggest cinematic events. She portrays Athena in Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's 'The Odyssey', while simultaneously returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe opposite Tom Holland in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'.
Before the year ends, she will once again revisit the desert world of Arrakis in Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune: Part Three', completing a remarkable sequence of five major productions released within a single year. The sustained workload has required months of international promotional appearances, red carpet events.
Her promotional tour for 'The Odyssey' has particularly captured the fashion world's attention. Drawing inspiration from Athena, the Greek goddess she portrays on screen, Zendaya embraced elaborate couture creations that blended mythology with modern haute couture.
Her appearances across London, Paris and New York included designs from Schiaparelli, Louis Vuitton and archival Givenchy collections, culminating in a dramatic winged gown at the New York premiere that became one of the most talked-about red carpet moments of the year.
The actor has also reflected on the challenges of balancing an intense professional schedule with personal wellbeing. Speaking to ELLE for its Summer 2026 cover story, she admitted that although she is proud of every project she completed this year, maintaining balance remains difficult.
Away from her professional achievements, Zendaya has continued to attract enormous public attention through her relationship with fellow actor Tom Holland. The couple, who first appeared together in Marvel's 'Spider-Man' films, remain among entertainment's most closely watched stars, with every public appearance generating widespread media coverage.
Holland recently shared a humorous story illustrating the couple's professional partnership while promoting 'The Odyssey'. He revealed that he initially hesitated after Christopher Nolan offered him the role of Telemachus because filming overlapped with production plans for 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'.
According to Holland, Zendaya jokingly told him she would "leave" him if he declined the opportunity to work with Nolan, persuading him to accept what both recognised as a once-in-a-lifetime project. The actor eventually secured permission from Sony Pictures to delay production on the next 'Spider-Man' instalment, allowing him to join Nolan's ensemble cast alongside Zendaya.
Although Zendaya intends to retreat from public life after completing this year's commitments, the break is unlikely to be permanent. Zendaya is already confirmed to return in 'Shrek 5' in 2027, ensuring audiences will not have to wait long before seeing her on screen again.
For now, however, one of Hollywood's brightest stars is preparing to do something increasingly uncommon in modern celebrity culture: step away from the spotlight by choice. After spending a year dominating cinema screens, television, fashion headlines and global premieres, Zendaya believes the next role she needs to play is simply herselfaway from cameras, away from the red carpet, and finally out of the public gaze.
