Jessica Alba has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming 13 Going on 30 reboot, expanding the ensemble of the highly anticipated romantic comedy inspired by the 2004 hit film.

Alba will star alongside Emily Bader, Logan Lerman and Adeline Rudolph in the new project. While Netflix has not confirmed details about Alba’s character, the streaming platform is keeping both her role and the film’s storyline under wraps. Production on the reboot began in Los Angeles last month.

The original 13 Going on 30, released by Columbia Pictures in 2004, starred Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old girl who magically wakes up in the body of her 30-year-old self. Co-starring Mark Ruffalo, the romantic comedy earned nearly $96 million at the global box office and became a lasting fan favourite through home entertainment and streaming.

Garner is returning to the franchise as an executive producer on the reboot, helping guide the next chapter of the beloved story. The film is directed by Brett Haley, who previously helmed Netflix’s romantic comedy People We Meet on Vacation. The screenplay is written by Hannah Marks, with revisions by Flora Greeson.

The reboot is produced by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum for RK Films, alongside a producing team that includes Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming, Alyssa Altman, Hannah Marks, Gina Matthews and Ted Gidlow.

Alba joins the project following the success of Netflix’s action thriller Trigger Warning, which topped viewing charts in dozens of countries after its release. She also has several upcoming film projects in development, including Maserati: The Brothers and The Mark.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the 13 Going on 30 reboot.
