‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ sets limited theatrical run ahead of Paramount+ premiere
‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ will receive a limited awards-qualifying theater run before its Paramount+ release
‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ is set to receive a limited theatrical release ahead of its streaming debut on Paramount+, giving fans an early chance to experience the highly anticipated animated film on the big screen.
The film will screen for one week in select theaters in Los Angeles and New York from July 24 to July 30 as part of an awards-qualifying theatrical run. Screenings will take place at AMC Burbank Town Center 6 in Los Angeles and AMC Empire 25 in Manhattan, with three showtimes scheduled each day.
The limited theatrical release suggests that Paramount may campaign ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ for major awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Tickets for the screenings will go on sale on July 16, while the movie will officially arrive on Paramount+ on July 25.
The film marks the first project from Avatar Studios, which was launched by Paramount in 2021 to expand the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise through movies and television projects.
Directed by Lauren Montgomery, with co-directors Steve Ahn and William Mata, the animated movie continues the story of the original series. It features Eric Nam as Aang, alongside Dave Bautista as Tagah, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko and Dionne Quan as Toph.
The official story follows Aang as he discovers an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With help from his friends, he begins a global mission to protect the future of the world they fought to restore.
The original Avatar: The Last Airbender series debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005 and remains one of the most celebrated animated shows ever, later followed by The Legend of Korra.
