Industrialists protest LDA, RUDA actions
Hundreds demand regularisation, inquiry into Masood Tech incident as LCCI warns of job losses

Hundreds of industrialists, factory owners and business representatives from Daroghawala, Saggian, Mahmood Booti, Barki Road and other areas held a protest and sit-in at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday, demanding an immediate halt to the relocation of industries and regularisation of long-established units.
The protesters expressed concern over actions of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the district administration. They demanded a safe business environment and accountability of the Assistant Commissioner Wagah over excessive actions against industrial units. Referring to the recent incident at Masood Tech Industries, they called for a transparent inquiry into the officials involved.
LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol addressed the protest, along with Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh and Executive Committee Member Rana Shouban Akhtar. Representatives of various industrial unions and business organisations also attended.
Speakers said industrialists play a vital role in the country's economy, exports and employment, yet face administrative hurdles instead of facilitation. They demanded regularisation of industries operating in these areas, the provision of basic infrastructure and facilities, and an end to what they described as unnecessary actions against industrial units.
The protesting industrialists emphasised that industries in these areas have been contributing to Pakistan's economy, exports, tax revenues and employment for decades. They said thousands of units are operating here, providing livelihoods to many families, but recent government actions have created uncertaintywithin the business community.
Participants also highlighted the Masood Tech Industries incident, saying it had created an atmosphere of fear among industrialists. They demanded an impartial inquiry and legal action if any official exceeded his authority.
Industrialists said the government should facilitate rather than relocate or shut down industries. They warned that continued pressure, uncertainty and administrative obstacles would negatively affect investment, employment and exports. They demanded immediate regularisation and improved infrastructure, including roads, sewerage systems and reliable electricity.
Addressing the gathering, Saigol expressed solidarity with the industrial community. He said the SME sector provides jobs to millions, promotes investment and contributes to national development. Unfortunately, SMEs face difficulties from various departments instead of receiving support. Saigol said governments worldwide focus on facilitating investors and creating ease of doing business. However, in Pakistan, industrialists often face issues that undermine investor confidence. He stressed that if the government wants economic growth and higher exports, it must address business community concerns and adopt business-friendly policies.
