Scott Bryce, the beloved ‘As the World Turns’ actor who played Craig Montgomery, has died after a cancer battle

Scott Bryce, the veteran soap opera actor best known for playing Craig Montgomery on As the World Turns, has died at the age of 68.
The actor’s death was confirmed by longtime friend Lucie Arnaz, who paid tribute to Bryce and remembered him as a talented performer, devoted husband and loving father.
Bryce passed away after a battle with stage 3 esophageal and stomach cancer. He was diagnosed in 2025 and had previously shared that he was recovering from treatment. According to Arnaz’s tribute, the actor’s cancer later returned.
Born on January 6, 1958, in New York City, Scott Bryce followed in the footsteps of his father, Ed Bryce, who was also a soap opera actor. He began his acting career on As the World Turns in 1982, originating the role of Craig Montgomery, a complex character known for his charm, ambition and controversial choices.
During his decades-long run on the CBS soap opera, Bryce became part of one of the show’s most memorable storylines involving Meg Ryan’s character Betsy Stewart and Frank Runyeon’s Steve Andropoulos. The famous love triangle became one of the series’ defining moments.
Bryce appeared on As the World Turns until 1991, later returning for additional appearances between 1993 and 2008. His performance earned him two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1986 and 1987.
Beyond daytime television, Bryce appeared in popular shows including Blue Bloods, Homeland, 30 Rock, Sex and the City, The Golden Girls and The Blacklist. His final acting appearance came in 2021.
Scott Bryce is survived by his wife, Jodi Stevens, whom he married in 2003, and their son, Jackson.
