The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday ordered the registration of an FIR against four officials of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) including its director, and a DSP, an SHO and ten other police officials in connection with the demolition of a building in Johar Town which left four labourers dead.
Justice Qasim Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued the order on a petition by Mian Shahid Mehmood, the owner of the plaza. He submitted through his counsel Aftab Ahmad Bajwa that the police had violated the order of District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed that an FIR not be registered against the building owner.
The petitioner said that the LDA had approved the design of the building and everything about it was legal. Still, he said, several LDA and police officials demolished it on September 23 in an illegal operation.
He said that his son had tried to show the officials documents including a court stay order but they had ignored him.
He said the demolition operation was illegal and the subsequent death of four labourers and injuries to several others were the responsibility of the LDA and police. He said he had tried to move a complaint with the police but they had refused to register an FIR.
On Monday, the police registered a case against the building owner and his son, as well as four LDA officials, on the complaint of an LDA representative.
