Launching a project aimed at bringing all subordinate courts in the provincial capital under one roof and modernising infrastructure, Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Aalia Neelum laid the foundation stone of a Rs24 billion judicial tower on Saturday.
The project, to be completed in 30 months, will house 184 courtrooms along with bar and record rooms, a parking plaza and other state-of-the-art facilities for judges, lawyers, litigants and court staff.
The chief justice also visited the Lahore Bar Association, where she inaugurated the solarisation of subordinate courts and an e-library before attending the foundation stone-laying ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar described the tower as a historic project in Pakistan's judicial history.
He said Justice Neelum, the first woman chief justice of the LHC, would leave behind an important legacy by prioritising reforms benefiting the justice system.
