Dwayne Johnson reveals he's long dreamed of making his Broadway debut
Johnson said that taking on a stage production is something he hopes to achieve when the right project comes along

Dwayne Johnson has revealed that one ambition still remains on his career bucket list despite conquering Hollywood, professional wrestling and business: making his Broadway debut.
The actor shared the long-held dream during an interview with People while promoting Disney's live-action Moana, admitting that performing on Broadway is something he has wanted to do for years.
"I've always wanted to do Broadway," Johnson said, explaining that the theatre has fascinated him because of the unique connection performers build with a live audience every night. He added that taking on a stage production is something he hopes to achieve when the right project comes along.
Although he has spent decades performing in front of millions of wrestling fans and starring in blockbuster films, Johnson acknowledged that Broadway presents a completely different challenge.
The 54-year-old said the discipline required to perform live eight times a week is something he deeply respects, describing Broadway performers as among the hardest-working artists in the entertainment industry.
Johnson's interest in musical theatre is not entirely surprising. He reprises his role as the demigod Maui in Disney's live-action adaptation of Moana, once again singing songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda while bringing the beloved animated character to life in person. The actor previously voiced Maui in the original 2016 film and its animated sequel, making him the first Disney performer to play the same leading character in both animated and live-action versions.
His comments come as Johnson continues to broaden the scope of his acting career. Alongside family-friendly blockbusters, he has recently embraced more dramatic roles, including portraying former MMA champion Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, a performance many critics have described as one of the most transformative of his career.
Johnson has also spoken openly about wanting to keep challenging himself as an actor rather than relying solely on action films. A Broadway production, he suggested, would represent another opportunity to push beyond his comfort zone and continue evolving as a performer.
For now, however, his focus remains on Moana, which arrives in cinemas this week with Catherine Laga'aia starring as the titular voyager alongside Johnson's returning Maui. But while fans are eagerly awaiting his latest Disney adventure, the actor has made it clear that one day he hopes to swap the big screen for the Broadway stage and fulfil a dream he has been quietly holding onto for years.
