Rob Reiner has received a posthumous Emmy nomination for his guest role in FX's acclaimed comedy The Bear, nearly seven months after the legendary actor and filmmaker's death. The nomination marks a bittersweet final honour for one of Hollywood's most celebrated talents.

The Television Academy nominated Reiner in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his portrayal of Albert Schnurr, a seasoned restaurant consultant who mentors Ebraheim, played by Edwin Lee Gibson, during the fourth season of The Bear. Reiner appeared in three episodes and quickly became a fan favourite for his warm, understated performance.

The nomination is the eighth Emmy recognition of Reiner's career. He previously won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his role as Michael "Meathead" Stivic in the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family during the 1970s.

Reiner died in December 2025 at the age of 78 alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple were found dead at their home in Brentwood, California, in a case that shocked Hollywood. Their son, Nick Reiner, was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty. Legal proceedings are ongoing.

The Bear paid tribute to Reiner in its emotional Season 4 finale, honouring the actor with a dedication that referenced one of his most beloved films, The Princess Bride. Reiner had spoken warmly about joining the series, revealing that longtime friend Jamie Lee Curtis encouraged him to take the role.

This year's Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category also includes Michael J. Fox for Shrinking, Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Ike Barinholtz for The Studio, Jon Bernthal for The Bear and Colman Domingo for The Four Seasons. Reiner's nomination adds an emotional dimension to one of the ceremony's most competitive races.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Mariska Hargitay serving as host. Regardless of the outcome, Reiner's nomination stands as a fitting final tribute to a career that spanned six decades and left an enduring mark on television and cinema.
