RAWALPINDI:

A professional rickshaw driver has installed a modified room cooler inside his three-wheeler to protect passengers from the intense summer heat and humidity, attracting more commuters and increasing his earnings.

The cooler has been fitted at the rear of the rickshaw, with an overhead plastic water container supplying chilled water mixed with ice.

The driver has also modified the vehicle by installing enclosed doors to prevent cool air from escaping.

Driver Fayyaz, a resident of Sir Syed Chowk on Tipu Road, said the idea came to him after experiencing extreme heat while driving.

The cooler now keeps both passengers and seats cool throughout the day.

He said passengers, particularly women travelling between Sir Syed Chowk, Moti Bazaar, Raja Bazaar and Saddar, prefer his rickshaw because of the cooling system. Many families have also taken his phone number and book his services in advance.

According to Fayyaz, the simple modification has not only made driving more comfortable but has also doubled his income as passengers now wait specifically for his rickshaw.
