BUREWALA:

A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her drug-addicted son after she told him that lunch was not yet ready, in a shocking incident that has left residents of Mujahid Colony in grief and disbelief.

Police and eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon within the jurisdiction of City Police Station.

The accused, identified as Allah Ditta, son of Allah Rakha, reportedly returned home and demanded food from his mother.

When she informed him that the meal had not yet been prepared, he allegedly became enraged and attacked her.

Police said the suspect struck his mother on the head with the lid of a pressure cooker during the altercation. She sustained critical head injuries and died at the scene.

The victim's daughter, who attempted to stop the assault, was also allegedly attacked by the accused and suffered injuries.

She was shifted to a nearby hospital, where her condition was reported to be stable.

Hearing screams from the house, local residents rushed to the scene, overpowered the suspect, and handed him over to police before he could escape.

Police officials arrived shortly afterward, took custody of the body, and shifted it to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered against the accused, who remains in police custody.

Investigators said preliminary findings suggest the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case, including the suspect's alleged drug addiction and mental condition.

The brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, with residents expressing sorrow over the tragedy and concern over the growing menace of drug abuse in the area.
