Priyanka Chopra Jonas says Hollywood is finally opening its doors
The actress said motherhood has changed how she works and made her far more selective with projects

Priyanka Chopra Jonas believes the entertainment industry is entering a new era where creativity matters more than traditional barriers.
Speaking at CANNES LIONS 2026 in Cannes, France, the actor and producer reflected on how the industry has evolved since she began her career and explained why she feels opportunities are now available to a much wider range of storytellers.
Chopra Jonas pointed to the success of recent projects such as Obsession as proof that strong ideas can emerge from anywhere.
"I feel like if you have an idea, shoot it, put it on YouTube, and it can become Obsession," she said, adding that "ideas are your currency."
The actor explained that entering the film industry was challenging when she was younger because she came from a family with no entertainment connections. With both parents working as doctors, she said her family had little understanding of how the business operated.
According to Chopra Jonas, filmmaking once felt like a much smaller and more exclusive world. She also recalled being told that Indian cinema would never achieve the same global reach as Hollywood because many films were not made in English.
The success of international productions has changed that perception. Chopra Jonas credited streaming platforms and changing audience habits for encouraging viewers to discover stories from different cultures. She highlighted the worldwide popularity of projects such as Squid Game and the Oscar winning film Parasite as examples of how non English language entertainment has become mainstream.
The star said these developments inspired her to establish her own production company to support filmmakers who possess strong ideas but lack access to opportunities.
Following streaming successes with Citadel and Heads of State, Chopra Jonas admitted she still hopes to broaden the scope of her English language career.
She explained that her work in India has allowed her to explore many genres and collaborate with leading filmmakers, while her Hollywood career has not yet offered the same level of variety.
Chopra Jonas described her next reinvention as bringing that diversity of characters and storytelling to her English language projects.
She also revealed that becoming a wife and mother has dramatically changed her priorities.
"Your priorities really change," she said. "I'm really, really selective about the time I spend and who I spend it with."
The actor added that balancing work and family life has given her a deeper appreciation for her own mother.
As she continues to build projects across different languages and markets, Chopra Jonas believes the future of entertainment belongs to storytellers who can connect with audiences beyond borders.
For Chopra Jonas, originality and strong ideas now matter more than where those stories originate.
