‘Toy Story 5’ heads for $$71m debut as ‘Disclosure Day’, ‘Obsession’ continue strong box office runs
The new instalment in the franchise introduces a new story line centred on children's growing dependence on technology

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 is dominating the weekend box office, with the animated sequel poised for a massive debut and easily outpacing the competition.
According to Variety, Toy Story 5 earned $71 million on Friday, including preview screenings, and is projected to finish the weekend with between $165 million and $175 million domestically. The strong start would mark one of the biggest openings in Pixar history and the largest debut of 2026 so far.
The fifth installment reunites Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang for a new adventure. Strong reviews and multigenerational appeal have helped fuel the film's impressive launch.
Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day, which opened to $44 million last weekend, is expected to slide to second place in its second frame. The sci-fi thriller is projected to earn around $20 million, giving it a solid hold for an original blockbuster.
Meanwhile, Obsession continues to be one of the year's breakout success stories. The horror film has maintained strong momentum in theaters and remains a major draw with audiences, adding to its already impressive worldwide total.
The performances of Toy Story 5, Disclosure Day and Obsession highlight the strength of the summer movie season, with several high-profile releases helping drive one of the healthiest box office periods in recent years.
