'Outer Banks' season 5 gets release date and first trailer as Netflix unveils final chapter

Netflix has officially unveiled the first trailer for the fifth and final season of Outer Banks, confirming when fans can expect one last adventure with the Pogues.

Season five of the hit teen drama will premiere on August 20, 2026, bringing the long-running treasure-hunting saga to an end after five seasons. Alongside the release date announcement, Netflix also shared new images and the first footage from the highly anticipated final chapter.

The teaser picks up in the aftermath of the devastating season four finale, with John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo struggling to cope with the loss of their friend JJ. Determined to seek justice, the group embarks on one last dangerous mission that takes them far from home and places them in the crosshairs of familiar enemies.

Returning cast members include Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, Austin North and Fiona Palomo J. Anthony Crane and Cullen Moss have also been promoted to series regulars for the show's final outing.

The official synopsis reveals that the Pogues find themselves stranded in Morocco after losing both the Blue Crown and JJ. As old adversaries, including Chandler Groff and Dalia, close in, the friends are forced into an uneasy alliance with Rafe in their fight to reclaim their lives and avenge their fallen companion.

Series creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke have previously said they always envisioned Outer Banks as a five-season story. Reflecting on the final season, the trio described returning to set for one last time as both “bittersweet” and “surreal”, promising fans “a wild ride” to close out the series.
