Netflix lands film rights to Brooke Averick’s debut novel 'Phoebe Berman’s Gonna Lose It'
The film adaptation announcement comes just weeks after the romantic comedy novel was released

Netflix has acquired the film rights to Phoebe Berman’s Gonna Lose It, the debut novel from comedian, podcaster and social media personality Brooke Averick, with development already underway on a feature adaptation.
According to Variety, the project will be produced by Ryder Picture Company, with Averick attached as an executive producer. The acquisition comes just weeks after the romantic comedy novel was released, underscoring Hollywood's growing interest in book-to-screen adaptations.
Phoebe Berman’s Gonna Lose It follows a hopeless romantic who is approaching her 30th birthday as a virgin and decides to take control of her love life by creating a plan to finally lose her virginity. However, her efforts become increasingly complicated as she finds herself navigating multiple romantic prospects while dealing with crippling anxiety around intimacy.
The novel marks Averick's fiction debut. The influencer and podcast host has built a substantial online following through her comedic content and co-hosting duties on the popular Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast show.
Variety reports that the adaptation will be developed as a feature film for Netflix, though a writer, director and cast have yet to be announced. The streamer has increasingly invested in romantic comedies and literary adaptations in recent years, making Averick's novel a natural fit for its growing slate.
The book has drawn attention for its candid yet humorous exploration of dating anxiety, modern romance and the pressures associated with major life milestones. Critics and readers have praised its relatable protagonist and blend of heartfelt emotion with comedy.
The acquisition represents a significant milestone for Averick, whose debut novel has quickly gained traction among readers since its publication in May, 2026. While details about the adaptation remain under wraps, Netflix's involvement suggests confidence that Phoebe Berman's story could resonate with audiences beyond the page.
No release date has been announced for the film adaptation.
