QUETTA:

Prominent doctors have strongly condemned the acid attack on Dr Mah Noor Naser, describing it as an intolerable assault on their collective honour and demanding the immediate removal of the Secretary Health and Medical Superintendent (MS) of Civil Hospital, along with a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Addressing a press conference at the Young Doctors Association (YDA) camp on Saturday, Professor Dr Ishaq Durani said the government and administration have completely failed to ensure the safety of lady doctors and secure hospital premises.

"The attack on Dr Mah Noor is an attack on our honour which we cannot tolerate," Dr Durani said. He demanded that both the Secretary Health and the MS be removed from their posts and a judicial inquiry be conducted into the tragic event. He also criticised the suspension of doctors involved in the protest.

Dr Durani revealed that Dr Mah Noor Naser had been working with him for the past two years. "This is not a minor incident that we can ignore by simply folding our hands. Such an incident can happen to any other doctor tomorrow," he warned.

Despite serving for 27 years, Dr Durani said the shocking attack has left him unable to sleep at night. "The incident must be taken seriously," he stressed.

The doctors also highlighted a new security threat. They had allocated a separate room for female postgraduate doctors, but an unidentified person wrote a threatening message on the door, naming a lady doctor and warning that no one else should use the room. Doctors termed it a serious threat that cannot be ignored.
