RAWALPINDI:

Race Course Police claimed on Friday to have arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) involved in a burglary at a school owner's residential quarters and recovered stolen cash and gold jewellery worth more than Rs4.3 million.

The suspects were identified as a former student of the school and his brother, who had been absconding since the crime and were later declared POs.

According to police, the complainant, Shahid Mahmood, in a case registered in February this year, stated that he and his wife operated a school from their residence as they had no children of their own. The couple also taught at the institution and lived in a room within the same building.

The complainant reported that unknown burglars had broken into their residential quarters by making a hole in the structure and stolen more than Rs400,000 in cash along with eight tolas of gold jewellery from a cupboard.

Following the registration of the case, Race Course Police launched an investigation using technical evidence and human intelligence. The inquiry revealed the involvement of a former student, Hasnain, and his brother Mohsin. Both suspects had gone into hiding after the burglary and were subsequently declared POs.

Police later arrested the two men and recovered the stolen property, including approximately 8.5 tolas of gold jewellery valued at more than Rs4.3m, as well as Rs100,000 in cash.

Pothohar SP Sardar Babar Mumtaz Khan formally handed over the recovered jewellery and cash to the complainant.
