LIFESTYLE:

Emilia Clarke, best known for her breakout role in HBO's 'Game of Thrones', has offered an unusually frank reflection on her post-fame career, acknowledging missteps in her choice of major franchise projects while maintaining a strikingly calm attitude toward their reception.

In a recent interview with Variety, Clarke spoke openly about the challenges of navigating high-profile roles following the global success of the fantasy series that made her a household name. She admitted to moments of disappointment, including feeling "old news" after missing out on an Emmy in 2019, but said she has since gained perspective on her career trajectory.

Clarke also addressed long-circulating industry speculation, including rumours about pay disparities on 'Game of Thrones' and questions around her experiences on major film sets. She declined to comment on specific incidents on productions such as 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' and 'Terminator Genisys', but said her focus has shifted away from revisiting the past.

Speaking about her involvement in major franchise projects, Clarke acknowledged the mixed reception to titles such as 'Secret Invasion', 'Star Wars' and 'Terminator', noting that she had stepped into already established universes where expectations were already firmly set.

"They didn't like that show, guys. I'm sorry," she said with humour, before adding that such outcomes were not personal failures. "I entered into already existing franchises, so when they don't work out, it's not personal," she explained.

The actor emphasised that many of these roles were choices she made willingly, but said she has since adjusted her approach to work. Rather than focusing on blockbuster visibility, Clarke said she now prioritises projects based on personal enjoyment and creative satisfaction.

Her remarks highlight a broader shift among performers who increasingly favour selective roles over franchise-heavy commitments, as Hollywood continues to grapple with audience expectations and evolving cinematic trends.
