Olivia Wilde’s upcoming film The Invite has released its first trailer, offering audiences a glimpse into the A24 comedy that explores marriage, intimacy and escalating tension through a seemingly ordinary dinner party.

Directed by Wilde, who also stars in the film, The Invite follows married couple Joe and Angela, played by Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde. Struggling with a strained relationship, the pair invite their mysterious upstairs neighbours over for dinner in hopes of breaking out of their routine. However, the evening quickly takes an unexpected turn as hidden tensions and uncomfortable truths begin to surface.

Academy Award winners Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton co-star as the enigmatic neighbours whose arrival transforms a simple gathering into a night of emotional chaos. As conversations become increasingly awkward and personal boundaries are tested, the dinner party threatens to expose cracks in both couples’ relationships.

The screenplay was written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, while Wilde returns to the director’s chair following Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling. The film marks her third feature as a director and continues her focus on character-driven stories exploring complex personal dynamics.

The Invite premiered earlier this year at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it attracted attention as one of the festival’s notable star-led comedies. Early reactions highlighted its blend of relationship drama, dark humour and intimate storytelling.

With an ensemble cast featuring Rogen, Cruz, Norton and Wilde, the film is positioned as one of A24’s major summer releases. The studio is giving the project an exclusive theatrical rollout at a time when many adult-oriented comedies are increasingly heading directly to streaming platforms.

The Invite is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on June 26.
