Water project gains momentum

The technical evaluation of bids submitted by six companies for the re-award of two contract packages under the Dream Water Supply Project-I in Rawalpindi, financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has been completed.
A report has been forwarded to the ADB for final approval regarding the contracts, which carry a combined estimated cost of Rs20.4 billion.
Competition will now proceed to the financial bidding stage among firms that qualify technically. The contract is expected to be awarded within the next month.
Upon completion, the project will provide Rawalpindi with an additional 12 million gallons per day (MGD) of water from Chahan Dam and 5 MGD from Rawal and Khanpur dams. The scheme is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
Financial bids will be opened among the technically qualified bidders, and the contracts will be awarded on the basis of joint ventures between Pakistani and foreign firms.
