Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow reunite to reflect on Friends, fame and new sitcom with Courteney Cox
The Emmy winners also discussed AI, ‘The Comeback’s’ final season and the lasting power of television comedy

More than three decades after Friends first premiered, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow proved that their off screen friendship remains as strong as ever during a wide ranging conversation for Variety’s Actors on Actors Emmy edition.
The pair reunited to discuss their careers, their enduring connection and the projects currently occupying their attention. While reflecting on the past, both actresses also looked ahead, even floating the possibility of working together again on a new sitcom alongside former co star Courteney Cox.
During the conversation, Kudrow revealed that she has finally watched the entirety of Friends, despite famously avoiding the sitcom for years after it aired. She admitted that she once felt uncomfortable watching herself on screen, but revisiting the series left her with a deep appreciation for the cast and the chemistry that made the programme a global phenomenon.
Aniston welcomed the revelation and said the show’s success came from a rare combination of talented writers and a cast whose genuine friendships translated naturally onto the screen. She described the experience as “lightning in a bottle”, noting that the bond among the six stars played a major role in the sitcom’s lasting appeal.
The discussion also turned to the future. Kudrow expressed enthusiasm for returning to multi camera comedy and suggested a potential project featuring herself, Aniston and Cox. Aniston quickly embraced the idea, joking that they should begin developing the concept immediately. Although no formal plans were announced, the exchange is likely to fuel speculation among fans eager to see the trio share the screen again.
Kudrow also spoke about concluding the third and final season of The Comeback, the critically acclaimed HBO comedy that first debuted in 2005. She explained that the latest season explores the growing influence of artificial intelligence in entertainment, with Valerie Cherish finding herself involved in a sitcom written by AI.
The topic prompted a broader discussion about the technology’s role in Hollywood. Both actresses acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding AI while expressing curiosity about its future impact. Aniston said she wanted to learn more about the rapidly evolving technology, while Kudrow suggested audiences would ultimately decide what works and what does not.
One of the most emotional moments came when the actresses reflected on Stage 24 at the Warner Bros lot, where Friends was filmed before a live audience. Kudrow became tearful recalling that The Comeback also returned to the same stage for its final season. The location carried additional significance because her son, Julian Stern, who was in utero during much of Friends, now appears in The Comeback.
The pair also reminisced about some of Friends’ most memorable comedic moments, including Ross Geller’s infamous bagpipe performance and several beloved guest appearances. Their laughter throughout the conversation underscored the warmth and affection that has defined their friendship for decades.
