Pindi reports two confirmed dengue cases

Anti-dengue drive in full swing, with 52,000 larvae containers destroyed

RAWALPINDI:

Two dengue cases have been reported in Rawalpindi district at the start of the dengue season in the twin cities.

The anti-dengue campaign was officially begun on June 1. Till June 14, the campaign will be conducted in 16 high-risk union councils which have been identified as danger zones for dengue cases.

During preliminary surveillance, more than 52,000 dengue larval containers, which were destroyed.

According to District Health Authority (DHA) sources, the screening data of dengue patients for Rawalpindi district reflected a highly controlled environment, according to which 1,463 people were screened for dengue, out of which there were only two confirmed cases reported, while the number of non-dengue cases were 50. The suspected cases currently under assessment remain 1,411.

The DHA has aggressively increased vector monitoring operations to track and eliminate potential dengue breeding grounds. During a massive internal surveillance, covering 2,417,162 houses across the district, 30,142 houses were found to be contaminated, and 52,225 positive larval containers were destroyed.

In the external inspection, dedicated teams scanned 826,200 outdoor locations, identifying 5,226 dengue-positive locations and destroying 15,670 larva containers. The targeted dengue sweep-up plan will be underway from June 1 to June 14, with a strong focus on 16 high-risk union councils including North/South Shakrial, Khana Dak, Chaklala, Morgah, Dhamial and Girja.

The DHA has asked citizens to play their role in ensuring that the environment is prevented from becoming conducive to the growth of dengue so that the spread of dengue can be effectively controlled.
