Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer, nieces of the late Princess Diana, have drawn criticism after an unnamed hairstylist claimed they requested complimentary styling ahead of their Cannes Film Festival appearance.

According to the hairstylist, the twins approached them about preparing their hair for a red-carpet event during the festival. The stylist told the Daily Mail that they declined the request and were surprised by it.

“For such a prestigious event as the Cannes Film Festival, you would think that their team would allocate some budget to this and respect the services us hairstylists provide and the time we spend creating such red-carpet looks,” the hairstylist said.

The stylist added, “I refused flat out because these are not women who don’t come from money, they’re from bloody aristocracy and are now well-known models.”

Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza, both 33, are the daughters of Charles Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, and his former wife Victoria Aitken.

The sisters attended the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month for the premiere of Coward, a film centred on a same-sex love story set during the First World War.

Despite the reported refusal, the twins later appeared at the event with hairstyles created by stylist Abigail Constanza. The sisters tagged Constanza in social media posts from the festival.

When asked whether they had been paid for her work, Constanza responded, “Yes, of course.”

The unnamed hairstylist told the publication they now refer to the pair as “the freebie twins”, a nickname stemming from the alleged request.

Neither Lady Amelia Spencer nor Lady Eliza Spencer publicly responded to the claim in the material provided.
