Jensen Ackles finally addresses Destiel debate years after 'Supernatural' finale
Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins revive Destiel chaos with confession talk and wild convention jokes

Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins have once again reignited the internet’s obsession with “Destiel” after opening up about Dean and Castiel’s complicated bond during recent fan convention appearances.
The longtime Supernatural co-stars reflected on the infamous final-season confession scene, fan interpretations of Dean and Castiel’s relationship, and even revisited one of the fandom’s most chaotic convention moments involving a fictional “Destiel baby.”
During an emotional discussion with fans, Ackles clarified that although he understood why viewers connected deeply with the pairing, he never portrayed Dean Winchester as romantically in love with Castiel.
“For those fans of that kind of fan fiction, great,” Ackles explained, noting that Dean’s feelings toward Castiel were always rooted in brotherhood and familial love rather than romantic reciprocation.
Collins, however, revealed that Castiel’s declaration of love in the final season was conceived much later in the series’ run and was not originally planned from the beginning.
He described the moment as “brave and bold,” praising the writers for allowing Castiel to openly express his feelings while also showing Dean responding with acceptance rather than rejection.
Ackles later explained that he viewed the scene more like a family member accepting someone after they come out rather than a romantic confession being returned.
The actors’ comments immediately reignited debate online, with fans once again arguing over whether Dean and Castiel’s relationship should be interpreted as romantic, platonic, or intentionally left somewhere in between.
But the conversation quickly descended into classic convention chaos when a fan reminded the actors about a now-infamous previous exchange involving Dean and Castiel hypothetically having a baby together.
Now that you took all of that time adding subtitles on the audio recording I found 4 short videos of it & combined it into 1.

I also joined 2 short
videos of the baby one, where Jensen was clearly annoyed & spoke abt taking what Misha says with a grain of salt & reining him in. https://t.co/fkxXX2tdWA pic.twitter.com/deB8xwmCtO
The fan recalled previously asking what would have changed if Castiel had appeared from season 1 instead of later in the show.
“We would have been cancelled,” Ackles joked instantly, sending the audience into laughter.
Things became even more absurd when the same fan reminded the actors that a previous discussion somehow spiraled into imagining Dean giving birth while “high on pain meds,” leaving Castiel responsible for naming the baby.
According to the fan, Misha Collins had previously expanded on the bizarre scenario in graphic detail, including jokes about the child being nicknamed “Brownie” because it was supposedly a “butt baby”, a fandom moment that has circulated online for years.
At the recent convention, Collins appeared horrified as the story resurfaced, while Ackles looked visibly exasperated and buried his face in his hands as the audience erupted.
“I stand by that answer,” Ackles laughed before reluctantly doubling down again moments later.
“Do I stand by my answer? Even more so.”
Collins jokingly questioned what exactly had been happening at previous conventions, while Ackles fired back by teasing his co-star for encouraging the chaos in the first place.
“You have to take answers that he gives with a little grain of salt,” Ackles joked while gesturing toward Collins. “He’s not in his right mind… or sound of body.”
The wildly unfiltered interaction quickly spread across social media, with longtime fans praising the actors’ chemistry, humor, and willingness to openly revisit one of the fandom’s most debated storylines years after the series finale aired.
For many viewers, the clips served as another reminder that even after 15 seasons, Dean Winchester, Castiel, and the never-ending Destiel discourse continue to dominate the Supernatural fandom.
