Eric Kripke has defended the ending of The Boys following criticism from some viewers over the show’s final season and conclusion.

Speaking to Variety, Kripke addressed the mixed reaction surrounding the finale, which drew criticism from sections of the fanbase despite the series’ long-standing commercial and critical success.

When asked whether there was anything he would change about the show, Kripke said he remained satisfied with how the story concluded. “No, we landed where we wanted it to land. Did some stories work better than others? Absolutely. There’s no TV show that is perfect, and every storyline is perfect all the time,” he said.

The creator added that he was content with the direction of the series and the ending reached by its main characters. “But all of those stories got us to this place. I’m happy with where it landed,” Kripke explained.

Reflecting on his experience working on the programme, he described it as “the best professional experience of my life” and said he would repeat the process if given the opportunity.

Kripke also revealed that the ending had largely been planned from the beginning of the series. According to the interview, the arcs for characters Hughie and Butcher were central to the long-term vision of the show.

“From the very start of the series, we knew that this was Hughie's and Butcher’s ending,” he said, adding that the conclusion remained relatively faithful to the original comic material.

Although The Boys has concluded, the franchise is expected to continue through two spin-off series currently in development.
