Students spend day crafting jewellery
Workshop teaches participants to work with copper, brass; design personalised rings

The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) successfully organised a copper ring-making workshop in collaboration with Jhol Studio on 14 May, 2026, at the PNCA, Islamabad.
The workshop was designed as an introductory, hands-on experience in handmade jewellery-making, engaging participants in the creative and technical processes of crafting rings using copper and brass.
The session was conducted by founders of Jhol Studio, Bilal Sarwar and Laiba Khan. Jhol studio practice focuses on handcrafted jewellery and material experimentation through copper and brass.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to essential ring-making techniques while exploring the relationship between material, design and form. They learned a variety of practical techniques including pattern ring creation, wire ring forming, texturing methods and introductory annealing and metal shaping processes. Guided demonstrations and structured exercises allowed participants to create their own handcrafted rings while gaining foundational knowledge of jewellery-making.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, emerging artists, and members of the public, fostering an engaging environment of creativity, experimentation and skill-sharing. Participants gained practical insight into material behaviour and contemporary jewellery-making practices while engaging in a collaborative hands-on learning experience.
The initiative reflected PNCA's continued commitment to promoting craft-based learning, skill development and public engagement with contemporary artistic practices. Initiatives such as this workshop, PNCA continues to encourage accessible art education and support contemporary craft practices within Pakistan's evolving creative landscape.
