Father allegedly kills teenage daughter

Wah Cantt police say victim killed for 'honour'

RAWALPINDI:

A father allegedly shot dead his 16-year-old daughter in the name of honour in Dhoke Noor, an area falling under Wah Cantt police station in Rawalpindi.

City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident, while police registered a case on the complaint of the state.

According to police, ASI Yasir Arafat stated that he was on duty with his team when gunfire was heard from the Bhalsair Road side. Upon reaching the spot, police saw a man fleeing the area, while cries and screams were also heard following the firing.

A young man at the scene informed police that Anwar Khan had allegedly shot and killed his real daughter, 16-year-old Kanza, in the name of honour.

Police immediately reached the house where Kanza's body was found lying in a residential room. Family members told investigators that Kanza had been in contact with a man identified as Maaz Khan through a mobile phone, and disputes had previously taken place in the house over the matter.

According to police, Anwar Khan allegedly opened fire on Kanza in anger and resentment over the issue before fleeing the scene.

Police collected evidence from the crime scene and shifted the body for postmortem examination. A case has been registered against the suspect father.

Police officials said that on the directions of CPO Khalid Hamdani, Potohar SP Sardar Babar Mumtaz constituted teams to arrest the suspect, and raids are underway.
