Clair Obscur Expedition 33 becomes second game to win all five major GOTY awards
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 completed rare five-award GOTY sweep after its BAFTA Games Awards victory

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become the only second video game to win Game of the Year honours at all five major industry award ceremonies following its latest victory at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards.
The French role-playing game secured the Best Game award at BAFTA on April 17, completing a sweep that also included top honours at the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, the DICE Awards, and the Game Developers Choice Awards. The only other title previously reported to achieve the same feat was Baldur's Gate 3.
The BAFTA victory capped an awards season that saw Expedition 33 emerge as one of the industry’s most recognised releases.
The game also won BAFTA awards for Debut Game and Best Performer in a Leading Role, with Jennifer English receiving recognition for her portrayal of protagonist Maelle.
Earlier in the awards cycle, Expedition 33 reportedly set a record at The Game Awards 2025 by winning nine awards from thirteen nominations. Those wins included categories such as Game of the Year, Best RPG, Best Game Direction, and Best Independent Game.
Developed by Sandfall Interactive and released in April 2025, the game has been praised by critics and players for its turn-based combat system, narrative-driven structure, and visual design.
Industry observers have noted that the title’s success demonstrates continued demand for story-focused RPG experiences at a time when action-oriented releases dominate much of the market.
The game reportedly sold eight million copies worldwide during its award-winning run. Its success also drew attention beyond the gaming industry, with reports stating that French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated the development team after its Game Awards success.
Expedition 33’s achievement places it among a small group of titles to secure consistent recognition across every major annual games awards body.
