Historic courts' entrance razed

RAWALPINDI:

The district administration on Tuesday demolished a secondary main entrance gate of the District Courts, located opposite Jinnah Park, as part of the District Courts overhead bridge and underpass project.

Alongside the gate, the District Council canteen, lawyers' chambers, shops and a police post were also razed. At around 9am on Tuesday, the project team, assisted by police, used heavy machinery to demolish the 128-year-old entrance gate to the District Courts.

Signage of the District Bar Association and District Courts installed at the site was also destroyed in the process.

Earlier, the principal and largest entrance to the courts from Kutchery Chowk had already been demolished and replaced with a smaller, temporary access point.
