The release date for House of the Dragon Season 3 was confirmed on April 27, 2026, with HBO unveiling a new trailer outlining key story developments.

According to the official update, the upcoming season will continue the escalating conflict within House Targaryen.

The trailer indicates that Season 3 will pick up directly after the events of Season 2, moving into a period of full-scale civil war.

Central to the narrative is the Battle of the Gullet, a major naval confrontation involving forces aligned with House Velaryon and their blockade of King’s Landing. The storyline is expected to expand on the wider conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons, as rival factions compete for control of the Iron Throne.

The tagline, “There will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule,” signals increasing tension, shifting alliances and sustained warfare. The trailer also points to significant developments for key characters, including Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Emma D’Arcy, and Alicent Hightower, portrayed by Olivia Cooke.

Reports suggest that the season may depict the death of Jacaerys Velaryon during the Battle of the Gullet, following an attack on his dragon. This development is expected to mark a pivotal moment in the unfolding conflict.

Based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series is set nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and explores the internal divisions of the Targaryen dynasty. Season 3 will feature an ensemble cast including Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint and Rhys Ifans.

The eight-episode season will premiere on June 21 and air weekly at 9pm ET on HBO Max, with the finale set for August 9.
